another fine day spent at the beach. can't even remember why we went. it was fun though. we burried jesse in the sand and invented a new sport. see the pics.

tai's birthday

for tai's birthday, kris planned a little surprise. we had cake and acted silly. i also took advantage of this cool setting on my new camera. ayham's appartment is all painted yellow so i was able to make that the only colour picked up by my cam. they look prety neat. check em out.

zoo with the family

so my dad and bro came into town and we spent a day at the zoo. i can't remember the last time we were at the zoo all five of us. it was a great day. it threatened rain the whole day but managed to hold off until we took a late afternoon lunch. it didn't rain again until we were in the car on the way home. perfect! a lot of the animals were pretty animated too. i was glad to see the hippos actually move. they are like giant sausages with legs. my only grievance with the toronto zoo is that it is sooooo spread out. maybe they were originally supposed to get more animals and then didn't. i don't know but it was a lot of walking. i mean, they don't even have penguins. but they do have a lot of other crazy things. check out the pics.

fun at the beach

i forget why but went to visit my mom at the beach and then tai met us up so we all just strolled the boardwalk like a large multicultural family and went out for dinner, had a lot of laughs and took some pictures. check em out.

jamie got a new camera

so i got a new camera. if you remember, mine broke while falling onto the road at 5am on new year's in montreal. ayham brought it back from the uae and i like it. it is the same model as my old one but upgraded a few megapixels and with a few more options and a giant three inch screen. anyway, i just took a lot of photos all week. here are a sample. there are more if you click here.

dave's cottage

in the dark i can smell the alcohol on my breath, the air inside the sleeping bag recycling through me. there is a tense calm and then the bell rings. three times the muffled ding, ding, ding sounds out over the calm lake, rattling the silence of dusk in the forest. i take a fateful hop forward. stumble. tumble into the mass of bodies in front of me. a boot is pressing against the back of my neck. the heat is overwhelming. the air inside is mostly carbonmonoxide. i lunge again. worm wars has begun.

my first experience at dave's cottage and subsequently my first worm wars. had a blast. tai, ernest, and some girls, jonah, shona, jesse, sol, jordy, dave, i and others i can't remember right now. bonfires, drums, poker, swimming, sailing, canoeing, rowing, trolling, catching small mouth, barbecue and friedman family reunions (?). see the pics.

canada day

canada day in ottawa...it is a tradition for me that has been going on quite some time. last year was the first year that i spent canada day in another place (yangshou) and coming back this year, i feel like it is different. i invited a bunch of buddies from toronto, threw a party with my sister at my dad's house in almonte, partied at the chez hourani, then did the fireworks and magic place bit. downtown was dead compared to previous years. maybe because of the overcast weather. anyway, it was still a good weekend. i went fishing with my dad and bro and met up with ben and other people. some good pics. i don't know what i will do next year. we'll see. pics are here.

went to toronto islands again. always a great summer getaway. it was hot and everything fell into place nicely. bought some $20 slices of pizza but other than that it was wicked fun. met some korean girls the night before and they were game for coming along. they didn't talk too much or anything but they seemed to have fun. there really aren't so many pics but i thought i would share.

insanity in vancity

wowee. diab was back from the uae and wanted to see more of canada than the GTA so we booked flights to vancouver and headed out as the weather was turning ugly in ontario. i hadn't been there since i was 12 or something so we were all pretty stunned as to how beautiful everything was there. we hooked up with tai's girl christina and our buddy govind who was there for work, and took off for vancouver island and the sleepy city of victoria. it rained on us a little bit but we managed to cause a ruckus. overall though, we felt victoria was for old people. so we headed back to vancouver. govind let us stay in his hotel for a bunch of nights and so we just went out at night with friends we all had who had ended up in vancity. during the day we went to capilanno bridge and saw the giant redwoods. man those are some big-ass trees. we decided to walk into the forest at stanley park and got kinda lost. one of the most eventful nights in vancouver was the night that kris threw a bbq and invited all her friends to meet us. they are all mostly asians from richmond who stuck to themselves but there were a few wild ones that partied it up with the toronto crew. mid-week we headed north to a small town called pemberton that was just past whistler. the mountains were gorgeous and the weather was hot. when we got out at one tourist spot, some waterfall or something, we had our car broken into and mine and tai's mp3 players stolen as well as ayham's itrip. bitches. we didn't let it get us down though and we got to pemberton. we let some locals sell us a fake fishing map and some poles and we walked along some train tracks like the littlest hobos (not homos) but never saw a bear or a fish or even a bird. the next day we headed toward a mountain trail and saw where all the fisherman were. damn bastard locals. anyway, we had a powow with mary jane and walked into the woods. the snow was up to our waists and kind of crusty on top so you never knew when you were going to fall through. at first it kind of sucked because it was cold and wet and the tape we wrapped around our ankles because we didn't have hiking boots started to cut into our skin. then we got lost and it started getting fun. there was a glacial lake, we had a bonfire and cooked us some pb and jam sandwiches, saw fairies, peed in snow in the middle of may, and found our way home. the rest of the night we just played frisbee in the full moonlight as it reflected off the snowcaps of the looming mountains. back in vancity, we partied some more, had a great night at one club in particular and managed to catch our plane. it was great to get together with everyone again and i hope it becomes a regular thing with this group. there are some good shots here so check out the pics. cheers.

this was taken right after our mp3 players were stolen from another roadside tourist attractions. jerks took our holiday soundracks. good thing we managed to convince ayham to hum us tunes every time we got in the car. Posted by Picasa
